LETS PLANT SOME NATIVE SPECIES

Help us restore the native plant biodiversity of three bioretention gardens in SE DC, learn native species, and discover how green infrastrucure is a nature-based climate solution that cleans our air and waterways.

Fall 2024 Volunteer Event Information:

WHERE: St. Luke Catholic Church, 4925 E. Capitol St SE Washington DC 20019

DATE: November 16, 2024

TIME: 9:00am -11:00am

  • Bring a full water bottle! We’ll have a refill station and light refreshments.

  • Bring your own work gloves and hand trowel if you have them!
    We will have extra work gloves and garden tools, but please bring your own if you can :)

  • Arrive on time. Check-in at 9:00 a.m.

  • Dress comfortably and for the weather. Closed toe shoes are required and long pants are highly encouraged.

More About This Site

St. Luke Catholic Church, located in Ward 7, is the site of our pilot green infrastructure installation. Green Compass planted 40 native trees with volunteers, depaved 2,000 square feet of asphalt, and installed 3 bioretention gardens that uses plant and soil systems to capture and clean 900,000 gallons of stormwater annually!
