Perry Street Prep
We planted 27 new shade trees at a public charter school in Ward 5 with our community partner, Casey Trees, and volunteers from DC Green Bank! Students and Staff celebrating pajama day were able to join us during recess and during science class to join in on the fun!
The trees reduce stormwater runoff by capturing and storing rainfall in their canopy and moving water into the atmosphere through evapotranspiration. Tree roots and fallen leaves also create soil conditions that promote the water cycle and infiltration of rainwater into the soil.
Trees also break harsh winds, improve air quality, reduce summer heat, reduce heating and cooling costs, increase property value, create wildlife habitat, and have aesthetic value that make humans feel good!
